(tianshannet) Updated: 2008-June-18 15:25:59

Tianshannet(Han Xue reported)In the morning of June 18th,9:45 am, dawaz performer,"Air Prince "Adil·Hoxurrunned to the platform at theAitigar Square of Kashgar, the Olympic flame began its relay in Kashgar.Aitigar Mosque situates in west of the squre,it's the biggest mosque in Xinjiang, even in China.

Today, after the Olympic Torch Relay started from Aitigar Square, the torchbearers traveled along Jiefang Road, Youmulakexiehair Road, Kezleduwei Road, Saglamu Road, Payinapu Road and East Renmin Road and the last torchbearer Dawuti·Aximu who was entitled as a person of “2003 Touching China” lit up the fire-pan at 11:30. The journey was about7.43 kmparticipated by 208 torchbearers.

The torch relay is companied by dances

“We see Uygur Dances of Xinjiang today, and they are very special and gorgeous. The local people wore their representative costumes and performed their folk dances. It feels like that the torch relay in Xinjiang is companied by dances”, said the reporter from Olympic Official Website.

At the starting ceremony, 500 local students were dressed in their colored folk costumes and formed a shape of Olympic Rings. The Uygur people celebrated the torch relay with their own styles. They performed the ethnic dances such as Daolang Dance, Keshgar Sainaimu, Maixilaifu and the strong and vigorous dances were full of the flavor at the border town. Just like what the presider said at the starting ceremony: Kashgar embraced visitors from the Silk Road with its bosom as broad asTaklimakanDesertyesterday; and Kashgar celebrates the great event of Beijing Olympics with its brothers and sisters of different nationalities with their enthusiasm like fire.

The first torchbearer stands for folk arts and the last one is a hero in the quake-relief

The first torchbearer Adili•Wuxiuer is a Uygur born inYingjishaCountyon July 1, 1971. When he was only 8, he began to learn the Uygur traditional art—Dawazi (Walking on the string in the air) and now he works at Xinjiang Acrobatic Troupe. At present, Adili is a representative of National People’s Congress, Vice President of Chinese Acrobatic Association and a first level actor of Xinjiang Acrobatic Troupe. He has made a great contribution to theXinjiang Uygurfolk arts (folk sports)—Dawazi and created world records for 5 times in succession in his own industry.

If we say that the fist torchbearer of Kashgar Torch Relay stands for the Uygur folk arts, then the last torchbearer Dawuti·Aximu represented the spirit of brave, fortitude, decisive, dedicated and diligent Uygur people.

“Now I am at the starting line of the torch relay and I can see many people here are cheering for Olympic Torch Relay. The local residents introduced that more than 60% of the people who are here cheering for the relay are Uygur brothers and sisters”, said the reporter from Olympic Official Website before the relay started.

For the coming of Olympic torch to Kashgar, we believe that the local reporters felt more than the reporters from far away. Just as what a reporter from “Kashgar Daily” said: ”I thought the torch only brought Kashgar people with joy and peace but when I approached to the details, I felt that the torch brought not only joy but also an unusual dignity. I believe the dignity is from the high response, from the love of Kashgar for the country and the treasure and love for the torch relay of the residents in this ancient town” .
