On the night of June 8th, the First Xinjiang (China) International Folk Dance Festival participated in by 16 domestic and overseas art troupes with 45 wonderful shows inaugurated in Xinjiang Gymnasium. 

Nuer•Baikeli, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee, Chairman of the Autonomous Region and director of the Dance Festival, announced the inauguration of the“Dance Festival”, Meng Xiaosi, vice minister of Ministry of Culture and deputy director of the Dance Festival and Yang Gang, Deputy Secretary of CPC Committee, Administrative Vice Chairman of the Autonomous Region gave a speech respectively. And the inauguration was presided by Chen Xiaolin, the deputy general director level inspector of State Department News Office.

Leaders from the Party, Government and Army of the Autonomous Region and Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps including Ailigen•Yimingbahai, Aisihaiti•Kelimubai, Nie Weiguo, Zhu Jinlin, Tian Xiusi, Fu Qiang, Han Yong, Li Yi, Xiaokaiti•Yiming, Nuerlan•Abudumanjin, Song Aiying, Bai Zhijie, Kerexi•Maihesu presented at the inauguration.

Guests including Liao Ben, Member of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles (CFLAC) and Secretary of Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, Huang Sheng, Vice Governor of Shandong, Liu Xinle, Vice Chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Li Tangtang, Vice Chairman of Ningxia Hui Nationality Autonomous Region, and Baima Langjie, Vice Chairman of CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) of Tibet Autonomous Region and the representatives from other provinces, cities and autonomous regions Liaoning, Guangxi, Shanghai and Shanxi and Hong Kong Special Administrative Region attended in the inauguration together.

In order to expand the external communication channel for cultural arts of the west remote area and autonomous regions, enhance the external cultural communication and publicity of Xinjiang and promote the prosperity of Xinjiang cultures, the Department of Culture, Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and State Department New Office decided to jointly host the“First Xinjiang (China) International Folk Dance Festival”in 2007. Reported to the State Department and approved, it was decided to hold the Dance Festival in Urumchi from August 8th to 18th, 2008.  

Themed in“Harmonious China, Charming Xinjiang”, the“First Xinjiang (China) International Folk Dance Festival”consists of 4 parts: Inauguration and Closure, Dance Shows, Dance Forum and Dance Exhibition. The troupes from 9 countries and regions such asRussia,Egypt,Turkey,Ethiopia,Greece,North Korea,Mexico, French Polynesia andIndiaperformed during the show time. Besides, 3 reputed dances such as“The Forbidden Fruit under the Great Wall”4 Xinjiang performances such as“The Sun Shines All Over Xinjiang”were performed. 45 performances with more than 2600 participants took part in the festival.

At the inauguration, artists from home and abroad brought skilled performances. The inauguration consists of the prelude“Tianshan Inspiration”, Chapter One“Wind Dances Along the Silk Road”, Chapter Two“Water Danced in the Oasis”, Chapter Three“Blossoms Dance Over the Field”and the epilogue“Dance Together At Mt. Tianshan”. The Evening was directed by state top ranked director Wang Fuying and the whole performances set out the glamour of new Xinjiang dances and the achievements of present-day dance arts in epic style. A great number of domestic singers including Song Zuying, Yan Weiwen, Zu Hai, Dilibaier, Liao Changyong, Wang Ying, Fei Xiang, Siqin Gerile and Zhu Zheqin, and dancers including Huang Doudou and Shen Peiyi all showed the audiences excellent performances. Their dedicated performances won powerful applauses again and again.
