Xinjiang would nurture 15 nationally-recognized brands and 150 regionally-known brands by the end of 2010, the government said on September 10.
All food producers and mills will have to obtain business certificates or sign quality guarantees, and all exports should meet relevant standards by that time, it said.
The goals were announced at a meeting presided by Ismayil Taliwaldi, chairman of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in Urumqi on September 10.
The government would spare no effort to ensure food safety, improve product quality and build brand names, the chairman said, adding that brand and quality would top the working agenda of the government.
A region-wide campaign was also launched on the same day to fight shoddy and fake products and to ensure food safety. Local food and quality watchdogs were nudged to intensify examinations and checks during the four-month campaign. They were asked to report to the regional government very 10 days.
