Recently a forest and grass eco-protection project,with the total investment of over 30 mln Yuan from the state, started construction. It aims to protect the eco-environment of Tarim River bank.
The project will cover more than 1.13 mln mu of land,inclusive of 13 254-km channels in the trunk stream valley of Tarim River, contruction and expansion of 7 forest protection stations, and nearly 80-km fences for sealed cultivation of grass. The project will be conducive to reasonable allocation of water resources and promotion of harmonious and stable development of economy and eco-environment.
Tarim River is the longest inland river in China, with the trunk stream reaching 1,321 km. It is the main water source for irrigation in Tarim Basin. Since 2001, the state has invested over 10 bln Yuan in harnessing the river valley. |
