VIENNA, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) called for the establishment of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East in a resolution adopted at the 52nd IAEA International General Conference held here on Saturday.

During the voting at the general conference, 82 member states of IAEA voted in favor of the resolution, with the abstention of 13 countries including Israel and the United States.

It is widely believed that Israel is now the only country in the Middle East who owns nuclear weapons, although Israel hasn't admitted it so far.

In addition, Iran's nuclear issue attracts more and more attention of the international community recently. Countries including Israel and the United States have accused Iran of developing nuclear weapons under the cover of peaceful purposes.

IAEA is also investigating it and asks Iran to stop the undergoing Uranium enrichment. But Iran insists that their nuclear program is used only for peaceful purposes and keeps strengthening their Uranium enrichment. With regard to this, UN Security Council has passed three resolutions concerning sanctions against Iran's nuclear plan.
