President of Guatemalan Congress resigns

MEXICO CITY, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- President of Guatemalan Congress Eduardo Meyer resigned Wednesday after his assistants were charged with impropriating 11.3 million U.S. dollars in congressional funds to seek personal proceeds.

Meyer, from the National Unity for Hope party led by President Alvaro Colom, said he had been kept in the dark about the embezzlement.
