On June 18th, the Beijing Olympic lucky clouds torch symbolizing peace, friendship and progress came to Kashgar-important place in south XJ with strong national and regional features and started the relay at the second stop of XJ.
At 9:30 am Beijing Time on June 18th, the torch relay started. Before the Olympic torch relay, all the participants mourned for the dead in Wenchuan earthquake for one minute.At the starting ceremony, famous Uygur Dawaz inheritor Adili Wushou'er-
high tightening-rope walker of XJ, held high the torch amid people's cheering, and started the torch relay in Kashgar in high spirit.
The relay, lasting for 1 hour and 45 minutes, started at Etigar Square, passed through the downtown and ended at People's Square of Kashgar City, with the toal length of 6.5 km. Over 100,000 people of different nationalities cheered along the route for Beijing Olympics and China. The last torch bearer was Dawuti Aximu - secretary of a village Party Committee. After lost 5 relatives in the earthquake of Bachu in 2003, he managed to lead his fellow villagers in the disaster-relief work. At 11:45 am Beijing Time, Dawuti Aximu held high the torch and ran to the People's Square of Kashgar City, and lighted the flame cauldron amid the cheers of the people.
At the closing ceremony of the Olympic torch relay, the envoy of torch relay of BOCOG presented Olympic torch and torch relay certificate to the Party secretary and mayor of Kashgar City. The Olympic flame will go on its relay in Shihezi City and Chanji City on June 19th.
