On the morning of Jan.9th, XJ tourism work conference was held in Urumqi. Nuer Baikeli, deputy secretary of CPC XJ Committee, acting chairman of XJ Uygur Autonomous Region pointed out that, XJ should advance the leap-forward development of XJ’s tourism with priorities.

Nuer Baikeli said that, tourism has become an important part in the national economy and opening up of XJ, and it plays a more and more important role in the accelerating economic growth, enlarging employment and driving the development of relevant industries. Nuer Baikeli stressed that, all parts of XJ should give priority to tourism industry, and attach great importance to the areas with abundant tourist resource and great tourism development potential. We should put much strength in tourism industry, integrate tourist resource and study and lay out policies and measures on further supporting tourism development. Efforts should be made to construct a batch of state and even world level scenic spots inclusive of Kanas, the Heavenly Lake, the Grape Valley of Turpan, Narat and Sarim Lake and strive to build choice tourism.

It is learned that, the reception of domestic and foreign tourists in XJ in 2007 is expected to top 21.7 mln men\times, surpassing the total population of XJ for the first time, and realize a tourist income of 20.5 bln Yuan. XJ’s tourism development will step into a new stage.
