With tears in eyes, Gulina and Cui Xianghua exchanged their favorite earrings. The two girls hugged, and reluctantly, said goodbye to each other.

This happened in April, when some Uygur women workers, including Gulina, were about to leave Shunhua Toy Co in Jiaxing of East China’s Zhejiang Province, where they had worked for a year.

Working together for a year had made Uygur girls and local workers close friends.

Amina Sakli, one of the Uygur girls, formed solid friendship with her superior Wen Xiong.

Wen taught Sakli Chinese and often brought the Uygur girl some snacks. When Sakli had any difficult times, she would like to resort to her “elder sister” Wen.

Local workers spoke highly of these migrant Uygur girls, saying they were hardworking and pure.

Xu Zhenqun, general manager of Shunhua Toy Co, was particularly moved during the New Year, when Uygur girls sent him a post card full of good wishes.

In other places, Uygur women workers also won praise. Many say they were goodwill ambassadors on behalf of Xinjiang.

“They follow every instruction from the supervisors. They are childlike, smart and polite. All these are valuable merits,” said Duan Hua’er, director of Qingdao New Sunlight Apparel Co Ltd.
