Tajigul Kuerba has never felt more proud of her daughter.

A villager of Kashi Township of Shufu County, Kuerba received 700 yuan from her daughter, Nuermina Hakli. It was the first time Hakli had remitted money home after she left the hometown to work in a textile factory in North China’s Baoding of Hebei Province three months ago.

“I am so glad that she becomes financially independent,” the mother said. “It’s good she could walk out of the village to learn how to work.”

Equally jubilant were other parents, whose daughters worked at the same factory. Three months ago, the local government helped 39 young women find jobs there.

“Before that, my daughter had never visited a place out of Shufu. I hope the experience could broaden her vision,” said Guxaguli Yase, another mother.

Shunfu County is short in land but rich in labor, said Gong Weibing, Party secretary. Therefore, it becomes an imminent task for local government to help villagers of labor age find jobs outside the county, he added.

In 2006, 200 young women working outside the county remitted home a total of 1.2 million yuan, or 6,000 yuan each person. This compared to a per capita income of 2,108 yuan in Shunfu. The labor transfer helped alleviate the poverty in the county.
