At the beginning of this semester my Chinese teacher asked one of the students to be the Class Leader．I was relieved that she did not ask me because honestly I have no idea what a Class Leader is supposed to do．

这个学期开始时，我的中文老师要求我们班的一位学生当班长。她没要求让我当使我感到宽慰，因为说实话，我根本不知道班长的责任是什么。

There is no concept of Class Leader sin American education．When I was in elementary school student shadvari ous responsibilities for cleaning the room or  helping the teacher ,but the re were no leaders．In high school,each day started in homeroom,where at tendancewastak—enandannouncementsheard． Itlastedabouttenminutes牞andafterthateverystudenthadanindividualschedulebasedondifferentlevelclassesforeachsubjectandelectivesaswell．

在美国的教育中没有班长的概念。我上小学时，学生们有打扫教室、帮助老师等责任，但没有学生领导。上中学时，每天在一个叫做“homeroom”的房间开始，老师点名后给我们通知一些事，大约十分钟时间。然后我们每个人都有一个依不同等级和选修课程的课表。

大学教育比中学的更个性化。学生在4年内把专业任务完成，但是他们有权利确定课程的顺序。在我的大学，尽管我学的是英语文学专业，但我从来没见过几个英语文学专业的同学。我们的课表不同，而且课外活动也不一样。这样没理由存在一个班长，因为学英语文学的我们并不在一个班。

美国的留学生也没有固定的班级。来中国之前，我在母校教过英语。我班上的学生来自于中国、韩国、委内瑞拉、哥伦比亚、日本、挪威、瑞士、越南等国家。我确保学生们互相知道名字，但是要想成为朋友的话，是在课堂外发生的。有学校的外事处每周三举办的“国际咖啡时间”、电影院或博物馆之旅以及使学生融入大学社区的活动等。

我这里的同学来自韩国、马来西亚、哈萨克斯坦、美国等国家，不过大多数人彼此不认识，在课外也很少遇到其他留学生，而且除了我的老师外，我不认识其他住在校园里的人。偶尔有大学校园活动，但是我们只被要求参加的是种植树木。我想我们如果被邀请参加其他活动的话，班长会通知的。

我至今还对这个人的责任不清楚。到目前为止，我只有一次收到她传递来的消息。那天她有事，所以她让我替她向老师请假。
