THE LOPNUR PEOPLE
(tianshannet) Updated: 2006-November-29 15:46:44

The Lopnur people live by the shores of small freshwater lakes formed by the lower reaches of the Tarim and Peaccok Rivers, and what had once been the many small fresh water lakes surrounding the Lopnur. They depend on fishing for their
livelihood, and were called the Lopnur people. Ancient natives of Lopnur had little connection with the outside world, but
with the river changing course and the lakes drying up, the worsening environment has brought historical changes to their
lives. They now no longer depend solely on fishing for a living, but also engage in farming. With their constant moving, forced by natural reasons, they are now in closer touch with the outside world.
