CUSTOMS OF THE HUI PEOPLE

There are around 680000 Hui people who mainly live in the Hui Autonomous Prefectures of Changji and Yanji, and Urumqi, Ili,Turpan, and also scattered north and south of the Tianshan Mountains.In agricultural regions, the Hui people are mostly involved in farming, while some engage in family animal husbandry. In urban they are in the eatery business.In the countryside, Hui men aboye middle age usually wear a small white cap, white shirt and black vest with black jacket and black pants. For winter clothing they wear western overcoats, padded coats, or fur-lined coats. Women like to wear solid
color Chinese jackets buttoned on the side while young girls like to wear brightly colored clothes in red or green. They also wear red or green silk headscarves. They also adorn themselves with bracelets, earrings, rings, necklaces, and hairclips.
