The Huiyuan Bell tower is located in Huocheng County of Iii. In 1762,(the 27th year in the reign of the Emperor Qianlong),the Qing government established the Ili General,someone who administered all the Xinjiang military and political affairs in Iii and other areas. The following year the city of Huiyuan on the northern shore of the Ili River was established as the General's encampment. In 1871 the city was destroyed with the invasion of the Czarist Russians.Later on it was rebuilt in the new city, a bell tower of traditional Chinese architectural design was erected in the center of the new city. The tower is a wooden structure three stories high and with three square eaves. The pillars are carved and the entire architecture is one of elegance and grandeur.
