Within the confines of Jimsar and Qitay counties were discovered vast petrified forests with thousands of silicified trees. According to the study of experts, they claim that the petrified forests evolved from primitive forests. The trees include awide variety of pine,deciduous pine and metasequoia, dragon spruce, gingko and birch, etc.A con-centration of so many thousand silicified trees thatvary so widely in species is seldom found else where in the world. The tallest of the petrified trees measures up to 26 meters, and is the second tallest ofits kind in the world.
