In the wasteland southeast of the Junggar Basin is a spectacular natural landscape that is the color of the rainow. The area had been an ancient lake, and with the geological change down the years,it dired up and its sedimentation has left behind an area of colorful rocks in bright purplishred, maroon, dirt yellow, charcoalgray, grayishgreen, and other fascinating colors. Hence the name of Colorful Bay.
