Urumqi is an elegant and vibrant city, the capitol of Xinjiang in the west of China. It is situated at the foot of the Tianshan mountains. The Institute is located at Beijing Road in the new urban area of the city. Its tranquility makes it the the most ideal place for students to pursue their further studies.

Founded in 1950, Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics(XIFE) is a full-time institution of higher learning and it is one of the key universities in the region. The institute offers programmes for undergraduates, postgraduates, adults and foreign students.

The Institute comprises of 14 academic departments namely, banking, finance, accounting, business administration, statistics, information management, economics, marketing, law, computer science, foreign languages, preparatory studies, Chinese language, Marxism&Leninism, physical education, and one affiliated school for adult education. Among all the departments, finance, accounting and business administration have been chosen as Xinjiangs' key provincial disciplines. The modernized library has more than 600,000 books in stock. There is a total enrolment of more than 20,000 students. There are 1302 staff in total, including 750 are fulltime teachers, 36 professors and 215 associate professors.

The Institute has set up a scientific research fund of 1,000,000 RMB. In recent years, the Institute has undertaken research projects at national and provincial levels and at all other sorts of levels and won many awards. Improvement of the quality of teaching has been the central task of the Institute. It has carried out a full-scale educational reforms based on the 5 tenets: Popularization, Personalization, Digitization and Internationalization.

XIFE has been actively exploring effective ways to meet the economic development of the region. It has established multi-level partnerships with research institutes, enterprises, several overseas and local universities from Japan, USA, New Zealand, Kazakhstan. Through student and teacher exchanges and inviting visiting professors to give lectures, XIFE has been able to become more and more internationalized. Currently, we have both students and experts from 11 countries.

The Xinjiang Institute of Finance and Economics is actively pursuing new avenues in the training and nurturing of personnel. We hope that we will be able to contribute to the "Great West Development" and build the Institute into one of the top finance and economics institutes in China.
