Poplar forest
On June 9, 1994, the Awati County government approved the establishment of the Awati Huyang and Wildlife Conservation Reserve.Awati County protected areas have the coordinates of E 80°35'~ 81°00', N39°27'~ 40°27'.The area includes 345000 hectares. The main protection activities are focused on Huyang forest and the Tarim Rabbit. Protected areas include Bositan pasture on both sides of the confluence of 3 rivers (Hetian, Yeerqiang and Aksu Rivers). Multiple forest stations have been established in this reserve.

In a 2001 survey, the reserve had 88 700 hectares of protected forest area. In the protected areas, desert, forest and meadow constituted a remarkable desert ecological system with many unique wildlife habitats. There was 1 nationally protected species and 18 species receiving wildlife class 2 protection.
