Kunjirap Port Highway Port Pakistan and the third country
As a highway port, Kunjirap Port is located in Taxkorgan Tarjik Autonomous County, Kashgar Prefecture and neighbors on northern Pakistan. The port was the necessary section on the ancient Silk Road to Pakistan and south Asia. In August 1982, the port was opened to companies of China and Pakistan, and in May 1, 1986, it was opened to third country. Owing to reasons in climate, the port is open for tourists from May 1 to November 30 every year, and only open for postal, trade and specially permitted personnel of China and Pakistan from December 1 of the year to April 30 the next year. The port mainly serves tourism, but goods can pass through it, too. In 1999, 17000 tourists and over 28,000 t goods passed through the port. Presently, the port can allow 100,000 t goods and 50,000 people to pass through it annually. Kunjirap Port is 130 km away from the seat of Taxgorgan County, 420 km away from Kashgar City and 1890 km from the city of Urumqi; 270 km from Jirjit, Pakistan and 870 km from Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan. During the opening period every year, both China and Pakistan send tourist buses to each other. |
