Alashankou Port             Railway port, highway port  Kazakhstan and the third country

Located in the Bortala Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, the port has both railway and highway passing through it and neighbors on Almata State of Kazakhstan Republic. The port is 73 km away from Bole City. The construction of a port under Category A at Alashankou was approved by the State Council in June 1990. In August 1992, the governments of China and Kazakhstan agreed to open the port to a third country, enabling it to serve international inter-modal transport. Since it was opened, it has made important contributions to advancing foreign economic and trade cooperation of Xinjiang, promoting the opening up and the economic and trade development in areas of China along the railway and highway passing through the port, and helping Japan, Korea and central Asian countries along the railway in their efforts to shorten transport distance, expand foreign economic and trade development and promote their economic development.    The port covers an area of 155km2. With an area of 7.29 km2, the living area and economic development zone develop by relying on the railway and Alashankou Station, and is divided into living area, storing area, commercial area, trade area, office area, economic development zone, tax-free zone, border trade zone and highway port zone. With the characteristics of big transport volume, long transport distance, low transport fare and fast transport, Alashankou Port is the “throat” of the second Asia-Europe continental bridge, an international port and the west gate of our country. In 2002, 83,000 people, 57,000 vehicles and 5.80 million tons of goods enter or exit Xinjiang of China through the port. For 7 years on end since 1995, the port has been ranking the second in the five major railway land transportation ports of China. From Alashankou, it is 75 km away to Bole City, and 460 km from Urumqi; from Alashankou, it is 12.3 km to Deluriba, Kazakhstan, 300 km to Aakdouka, Kazakhstan, and 880 km to Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan.
