Introduction to Category-A Ports
1. Urumqi Airport:
Urumqi airport is a passage for China leading to west Asia, Europe and Africa. In 1993, the airport, officially open in 1993, is equipped with various modern facilities, runways available for Boeing 707, Boeing 747, Boeing 757, Year- 86, Tu-154M civil aero-planes. The international transmitting-receiving radio station can make a direct contact with the vast areas ranging from the Scandinavian Peninsular in the north to the Cape of Hope down to south. The airport is attached with plane maintenance works, undertaking the maintenance of various planes. In 2000, Urumqi airport operated 69 air-routes, including 61 domestic routes, 1 sectional air-route, namely: Urumqi- Chongqin- Hong Kong route and 7 international air-routes, namely: Urumqi- Islamabad in Pakistan, Moscow in Russia, Novosibirsk, Yekainburg; Alma Ata in Kazaskhstan, Tashkent in Uzbekistan and Biskek in Kyrgrzstan. In 2001, the entry and exit passengers through Urumqi Airport numbered 110,072 men times, export cargoes 13,523 tons and business volume 37.237808 million USD.
2. Kashi airport (ratified by the state council but not opened yet)
Kashi airport is located in Kashi city of Kashi prefecture, Xinjiang, which is 10 kilometers away from the downtown area. It was ratified an airport by the state council in April 1993. The terminal building has a floor space of 4856 square meters and a full set of equipment for flight guaranty and 24-hour landing and take-off service. The opening of Kashi airport has had a tremendous effect of stimulation on the economic development in Kashi and southern Xinjiang. Kashi-Osh and Kashi-Andizhan international flights are projected to be open and Kashi-Islamabad international flights is further to be opened when condition is mature in order to make Kashi airport become a air-bridge for west China to open to the outside world. In December 1998, the enlargement works on Kashi airport has been completed, whose flight grade has been upgraded from the original 4D to 4E to handle the full-loaded landing and take-off of B737-400 model plane.
3. Korgas port
Korgas, located by the Korgas River in the Territory of Huocheng County in Yili Kazakhstan Autonomous Region, is 96 kilometers away from Yining city, 690 kilometers from Urumqi city and 380 from Alma Ata city. Korgas Port has become an important ??Bridge Head?? for Euro-Asian Continental Bridge.
4. The Alataw Pass:
The Alataw Pass, located in the northeast corner of Bole city in Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 73 kilometers away from Bole city, 800 kilometers from Alma Ata, Kazakhstan. On June 7th, 1990, the state council ratified the Alataw Pass as a double port integrating railway and highway. In August 1992, Chinese government agreed that the port would open to the third country, with the status of international combined transportation. The Alataw Pass is an important railway port in and out of China for the Second Euro-Asian Continental Bridge and a port city with the development of import and export business, processing industry and transit cargos as a basis. In June 1992, the passenger train service between Urumqi and Alma Ata started and now Urumqi---Alataw Pass domestic train runs daily. The state allows the administration of Alataw Pass to import foreign automobiles, chemical fertilizers, farm insecticide, building material and industrial and agricultural production means. In 1996, the Alataw Pass was appraised as a port of national moral construction. In 2001, the entry and exit passengers through the railway port numbered 37091 men times, import and export cargos 5,007,084 tons, including import of 4,378,768 tons and general trade export of 628,316 tons; he entry and exit passengers through the highway port number 2143 men times, import and exported cargos 78,272 tons, including import of 20,954 tons and general trade export 57,318 tons. The total trade sum is 71,316,626,400 USD, including: import of 58,715,408,500 USD and export of 12,601,217,900 USD.
5. The Baktu Port
The Baktu Port, located in the territory of Tacheng city, Tacheng prefecture Xinjiang, is 17 kilometers away from the city, 477 kilometers from Urumqi and 800 meters from the Baktu port in Kazakhstan. The Baktu Port, which has a land area of 1 square kilometer, was ratified national category-A port by the state council. In July 1995, it was open to the third country. Along with further opening to the outside world, the port has been equipped with inspecting and checking facilities for one customs and four quarantine inspections with a floor space of 3046 square meters and passage for vehicle inspection with a floor space of 250 square meters. 6. Jimnay Port
The port, located in the territory of Jimnay county, Altay region, Ili Kazak Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang is 24 kilometers away from the county seat, 198 kilometers from Altay and 450 kilometers from Urumqi, covering a land area of 0.4 square kilometers. In July 1992, Chinese and Kazakhstan governments signed an agreement and agreed to open the port of Jimnay. The port, located in the western part of Haba county, Altay prefecture, Xinjiang, is 117 kilometers away from Ha Bahe county seat, 284 kilometers from the city of Altay and 829 kilometers from the city of Urumqi. Aheybiek stands opposite to Hakuly County and Alianxiefuka port in Kazakhstan. In industry and product structure, the both have inter-complementary character in economy. In August 1992, the two state governments signed an agreement and agreed to open it for people from the both countries, transportation means and passage of cargos. The port owns favorable condition to carry out frontier trade and frontier people??s trade fair, organized tour and tour purchase.
8. Dulart Port (spot of frontier people??s reciprocal trade fair opened in September 1999 on temporary basis)
The Dulart Port, located in the territory of Qapqal Xibe Autonomous County in Yili Prefecture, is 58 kilometers from the county seat and 72 kilometers from the city of Yili, standing side by side with Chongza area, Alma Ata state, Kazakhstan. 9. Muzart Port (Ratified by the state council but not opened yet)
The Muzart port, located at 109 kilometers southwest of Zhaosu county, Yili Prefecture, is 296 kilometers from the city of Yining, 320 kilometers from Alma Ata Kazakhstan and only 90 kilometers away directly from the third country of Kyrgyzstan. It is one of the closest ports open to Kyrgyzstan. Chinese government and Kazakhstan government signed an agreement on opening of the port in August 1992. The port will be built into an export-oriented economic zone of comprehensive development with multi functions dominated by cargos transit and frontier trade, equipped with unified inspections, office, warehouse and life service facilities as well as communication, telecommunication and water supply and drainage works.
10. Ulastay Port
The Ulastay Port, at the northwestern foot of the Beita Mountain in Qitay county, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 242 kilometers away from Qitay county and 70 kilometers from the city of Changji, 455 kilometers from the city of Urumqi, bordering on Burgan county, Keburduo province, Mongolia. The Ulastay Port, according to the agreement signed between China and Mongolia in June 1991 reopened as a bilateral seasonal open port, which opens between 1-20th respectively in March, June, September and December. The port is equipped with a stock yard encircled by walls with 1500 square meters, cargos terrace with 10,000 square meters and port administrative office and life service facilities with a floor space of 800 square meters. The both sides have a highway to connect with the port accessible for vehicles all the year round. 11. Lao Yemiao Port
The port, located at San Tanghu village in the north of Balikon Kazak Autonomous County, Hami Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 85 kilometers away from the county seat of Balikon, 216 kilometers from the city of Hami and 773 kilometers from the city of Urumqi, bordering on Altay county, Gobi Altay province, Mongolia. It is a bilateral seasonal port between Xinjiang and Mongolia, which was open in March 1992, whose opening time is 10-30th in March, June, August and November. 12. Tashkent Port
The port, located at Chaganguole Township in the eastern end of Qinghe County, is a highway port open to the Republic of Mongolia. It is 90 kilometers away from the county seat of Qinghe and 150 kilometers from the city of Altay, bordering on Burgan County in Kobuduo province of Mongolia in the east. In July 1989, both sides of China and Mongolia declared opening Tashkent port in China and Burgan port in Mongolia, whose open time is set on 15-30th from April to December. At present, the port construction has been basically shaped, service facilities basically matched. The international scheduled bus service has been put into operation and cargos, staff and transportation means have gone in and out of the port more frequently. In the year of 2001, entry and exit passengers through the port numbered 4244 men times, import and export 23,086 tons and business sum 6,805,131 USD, including import of 644 tons with business sum of 704,316 USD; general trade export of 17,233 tons with business sum of 4,373,479 USD; tour purchase export of 5209 tons with business sum of 1,727,336 USD.
13. Hong Shanzui Port
The port, located at Hong Shanzui, in the northern mountain area of Fuhai County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 269 kilometers away from the county seat of Fuhai, 169 kilometers from the city of Altay and 869 kilometers from Urumqi, bordering on Sagesay County, Bayanuliegay province, Mongolia in the east. In February 1992, the state council ratified the Hong Shanzui Port as category-A port opening to the outside world. The port belongs to a seasonal one, which opens, based on the negotiation between China and Mongolia in February 1995, on 1-10th and 14-23rd in July; on 1-20th from August to September every year. The construction on the port is based on application of material adapted to the local condition, thus wooden structure with mountainous characters have been built. In the year of 2001, entry and exit passengers through the port numbered 3280 men times, import and export 20,223 tons with business sum of 117,497 USD, including import of 2 tons with business sum of 36,300 USD; general trade export 3 tons with business sum of 303 USD and tour purchase export 22 tons with business sum of 80,894 USD.
14. Yearkeshtan Port
The port, located at Kulumdu Pass, Uqia County, Kizilesu Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 53 kilometers away from the county seat of Uqia and 250 kilometers from the city of Artux, bordering on Osh in Kyrgyzstan. In July 1997, Yearkeshtan port opened between China and Gyrgyzstan and the both sides agreed to open for 20 days on temporary basis in the latter half of a month. The port is an international port opened to China and Gyrgyzstan as well as to the third country. 2001 the import and export 60,486 tons with business sum of 830,142,290 USD, including import of 30,634 tons with business sum of 32,351,116 USD and general trade export 29,852 tons with business sum of 50,663,113 USD.
15. Turgat Port
The port, located in the northeast of Uqia County, Kizilesu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, is 145 kilometers from Uqia County, 170 kilometers from Artux city and 5 kilometers from the Tugart port in Kyrgyzstan. It is an important highway port for cargos all the year round in south Xinjiang. The capital construction on the port has grown very fast, with stockyards of 18,000 square meters, warehouse of 3100 square meters and cargo platform of 6000 square meters. The annual handling capacity of import and export reached 150,000 tons. The current port has moved to Topa, which is 62 kilometers from Artux and 57 kilometers from Kashi. It is an important port of southwest Xinjiang leading to central Asia, Europe and western Asian countries, which will become a port for import and export trade, tour-purchase, international free trade and transit cargos. In the year of 2001, the entry and exit passengers through the port numbered 12437 men times, import and export cargos 110,707 tons with business sum of 736,401,950 USD, including import of 90,336 tons with business sum of 38,102,747 USD and general trade export of 20,341 tons with business volume of 35,537,448 USD.
16. Kunjirap Port
The port, located in the county seat of Taxkorgan, Kashi Prefecture, is 290 kilomweters from the city of Kashi, 1780 kilometers from Urumqi and 210 kilometers from the Suster Port in Pakistan. The port is easier accessible to transportation. It is a seasonal port which opened to citizens from China and Pakistan in August 1982., with open time from May 1st to November 30th every year. Krasu Temporary Trade Port
The port, located in the territory of Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, Kashi Prefecture and by Pakistan-China international highway. Opposite to the passage is Tajikistan that is 62 kilometers from the county seat of Taxkorgan and 219 kilometers from Kashi city.
